Seminar on “Union Budget 2016-2017-Expectations & Outcome”

A seminar on “Union Budget 2016-2017-Expectations & Outcome” was organized by the department of Department- HRM & IB on 11th March, 2016, under the aegis of Centre for research innovation and training (CRIT). It was divided into two sessions. In the first session a Panel Discussion was organized where experts from Industry and Academia gave their valuable inputs and insights related to the Union Budget 2016-17. In the second session, students presented their views on the budget and its impact on various sectors through PowerPoint presentations. The seminar began with Saraswati Vandana and Lamp lighting, followed by floral greetings of the Panel experts by Dr. Rakhi Gupta, Rector and Registrar, The IIS University and Prof. MK Sharma, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management. Dr Seema Singh Rathore, Convener of the seminar gave the Welcome note. Thereafter, Dr Roopam Kothari took over the proceedings of the panel discussion as the moderator. The first speaker was Shri Rajeev Sogani, an eminent personality in the field of Chartered Accountancy. He is the head of Direct Tax Vertical of the Firm and also provides Business Consultancy. In addition, he provides his technical inputs in Statutory Audits, Internal Audits and Company Law Matters. Sogani ji gave a presentation on Direct Tax proposals as announced in the Finance Bill 2016. He explained the income declaration scheme 2016, the Direct tax dispute resolution scheme, 2016, equalization levy etc in a very simple way. He highlighted the fact that in a country like India, collections from Indirect taxes are less than that from Direct tax collection. The second speaker was Shrir Ashish Modani. Shri Modani is a qualified chartered accountant and founder of SLA Financial Solutions. As a certified financial planner, his proactive initiatives in the industry have changed the way people perceive financial advisory which lead to the astronomical growth of SLA. Today, his firm extends financial advisory services to more than 4500 clients. Shri Modani acquainted the students with different aspects of investment management in the light of Union Budget 2016-17. He said that Budget 2016-17 is more about directional change and aims at creating a pensioner’s society. Prof N D Mathur, a prominent academician in the field of Economics, was the next speaker. He focused on the macroeconomic implications of the Union Budget 2016-17. The last speaker was Shri Jai Singh Kothari. Shri Kothari, Renowned Economic Analyst, Founder and Managing Director of Nafa Nuksan (Daily Business Newspaper in Hindi) is well known figure in Rajasthan’s business, trade, investment and media sector. He has more than 40 years of experience. Jai Singh Kothari is Managing Director of Nafa Nuksan. Nafa Nuksan was started as a weekly tabloid newspaper and currently it is a broadsheet Daily Business Newspaper publishing from Jaipur and reaching to more than 90 cities and business towns all over Rajasthan. He has authored several books and articles. Shri Kothari highlighted the potential sectors here the students can seek their career in future. He expressed his views related to provisions for start ups in the budget this year. The floor was then opened for question answer session. Students raised many questions to the panel experts which were answered by the experts in very simple way. In the end, vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Mahima Rai, organizing secretary of the seminar. First Session of the seminar ended on a good note and was followed by refreshments for all. The second session began with floral greetings of the two judges -Prof. ND Mathur and Prof. Deepika Korani. There were 18 presentations in all given by the students. Apart from the students of the IIS University, students from other institutes of Jaipur including Amity University, RA Poddar Institute, Jaipur National University and Jaggannath Institute of Management gave their presentations. The award for the best three presentations was bagged by Mr. Sozhia Vellalar Kamesh of Amity University and Ms. Karishma Sharma & Ms. Sonali Kabra of The IIS University. In the end a Certificate of participation was given to all the registered students. To conclude it can be said that this seminar was successful in achieving its objective of providing a platform to the students to share, discuss and deliberate on various aspects the Union Budget 2016-17. About 200 atudents benefitted from this seminar
